Flamberge showed his customary pace and raced outside the leader before going to the front nearing the home turn. He then fought off a number of challengers in the straight to win narrowly but well. Hot Snitzel had a good trip, just off the pace, in fifth spot. He came with a well-timed run and looked the winner at the 200m but the winner fought back a bit too well and he battled on nicely for a close second. Bennetta travelled well in sixth place, one off the rails before putting in a run at the 300m. She got to third at the 100m and fought on to hold that position to the post, putting up a promising first-up effort. Dances On Stars was second-last on the rails in the ten-horse field to the turn. He improved between runners at the 300m and kept making ground to take fourth, beaten two and a half lengths. Lilliburlero showed good pace again and led until the home turn. She then held on quite well for fifth staging a sound effort having proved suspect in rain-affected conditions previously. The favourite That’s A Good Idea was caught three wide outside the leading pair to the 600m before dropping out to finish a disappointing eighth but his effort today probably should be overlooked in the heavy conditions, which he had not experienced previously. *ANZ
