Generalife was slowly away and was near last in the early stages before settling in seventh place on the rails. He then travelled well to the home turn before James McDonald drove him along the inside from the 300m. He hit the front at the 100m and then fought back to win by the barest of margins. Target In Sight was near last in the ten-horse field to the 600m. Blake Shinn steered him between runners on straightening, then switched out passing the 200m to challenge at the 100m. He then battled gamely for second. Hot Snitzel raced outside the leader (Rain Affair), travelling at a reasonable tempo before going to the front at the 200m. He then fought back well for a good third. Rain Affair led as usual but Craig Williams rated him conservatively in front (first 600m 35.95). He looked beaten at the 200m but then rallied quite well to take a sound (2.9 lengths) fourth, narrowly beating Heart Testa (fifth), who appeared to have every chance.
