The Lindsay Park-trained colt Derryn scored a very good win. He settled back in second last place in the ten-horse field before improving well (wide out) rounding the home turn. He then put in a strong run in the centre of the track, hit the front at the 100m and then drew away to score quite impressively. Crafty Cop had a nice trip in third place from his good barrier (2), challenged at the 200m and then fought well for second. The favourite Tactical Advantage raced in sixth place, one off the rails, was under riding coming to the home turn and appeared to be resenting the Heavy 10 track. He eventually went through to fourth at the 100m before battling on to take third, his first defeat in five runs this preparation
