Promising Gerald Ryan-trained colt Menari who was Group placed last season, scored an impressive first up victory. He was smartly away but was eased to settle in sixth place, tracking a good tempo. He moved up well on turning for home, sprinted quickly to take the lead at the 100m before drawing clear to score decisively. He looks set for a very good preparation. The favourite Siege Of Quebec was quickly away and retained the lead after early pressure. He then fought back gamely when challenged, putting up a good effort in holding on well for second. Trekking settled in fifth place from his good barrier (2), got along the rails to be third at the home turn and then battled on well to take the minor placing. Overshare worked early on racing outside the leader and did quite well in holding on for (3.2 lengths) fourth.
