Renew put up a very good effort to score. He was trapped deep in the early stages, gradually working up to settled outside the leader with a lap to go. He then eased to get cover from the 1600m but was shuffled back to sixth before improving nearing the home turn. He challenged at the 300m, hit the lead at the 200m and then fought gamely to score by a half neck, putting up a good staying performance. Like A Carousel was midfield in the early stages, moved up to race outside the leader at the 1600m, went to the front at the 250m and then battled gamely for second. Shoreham enjoyed a nice trip from his good barrier (1) racing in third place on the rails most of the way to the turn and then held on quite well for third, while the outsider Waltzing To Win plugged on very well from tenth at the turn for fourth, just missing third in a photo.
