Godolphin-raced colt Morton’s Fork put up a really good effort in overcoming a very muddling early pace (first 1000m 67.51) in winning here. He settled back in eighth place, one off the rails, before improving (deep) nearing the home turn. He took quite a while to wind-up (widest of all in the straight) and then rallied late, storming home to grab a narrow but impressive win – sprinting home his last 600m in a very fast 32.45. Ruthven had a nice trip in fourth place, one out and one back. He moved up at the home turn, got to the front at the 100m and was only grabbed nearing the post for a good second, his first defeat in three runs to date. Jennifer Lynn settled nicely in third place on the rails. Switched out on straightening, challenged at the 200m and fought well in the sprint home for a good third. Faraway Town raced back in seventh place, on the rails, and got along the inner on turning for home. She sprinted quickly to take the lead at the 300m and then battled on well for (3.4 lengths) fourth in another very sound effort in Group class. Benz went to the front, really slowed the tempo but was overtaken approaching the 300m and then held on for (5.2 lengths) fifth after appearing to have every chance.
