A strong second at Warwick Farm over 1400m at his previous start, Commander jumped to stakes company with a very convincing win here in career start three. He sat a distant second, one off the fence down the back with jockey Dean Yendall content to let the pacemaker roll along then moved much closer at the 600m to be in a great position to challenge into the straight. Yendall gave him time to gather then took over at the 250m, gave him a shake and they drew clear to score quite easily by a widening two lengths at the line. Grim Reaper tracked the winner into the straight, tried to get on terms but never looked like getting past. A Man To Match kept up a solid run the length of the straight, grabbing third right on the line from pacemaker Miss Sara, who kept on well after doing all the work only to lose third in her last stride.
