The favourite Messene scored a good win. He worked across gradually from his wide barrier (11) to take the lead at the 1400m. He then settled well and steadied the pace from that point before sprinting clear shortly after turning for home and went on to score a comfortable win. It was also a very good ride by Blake Shinn. Iggi Pop settled in eighth place, one off the rails, racing a bit keenly in stages due to the moderate mid-race tempo before improving nicely (wide) from the 600m. He got to third at the 200m and kept running on well for a sound second, without looking likely to trouble the winner. Adirondack was ninth on the rails, got between runners at the home turn and went through to fourth at the 200m. He then battled on quite well to just grab third in a photo. Grand Proposal led in the early stages, was eased to race in second place from the 1400m. He put in a bid on the rails at 200m and then battled on quite well, just missing the minor placing in the last few strides to finish fourth.
