An upset victory to Thump who raced three wide facing the breeze outside the leader before being taken to the centre of the course in the straight. She responded gamely to Jim Cassidy’s urgings and fought on strongly to score. Real Surreal enjoyed a lovely trip just on the back of the speed following Sweet Idea in the run. She switched off that horses back at the top of the straight and picked up well only finding the winner on her outside slightly the better. Lucia Valentina ran exceptionally well at her first start for Kris Lees. She came from third last on approaching the home turn to finish strongly along the inside, on what was inferior ground. She is a filly to follow. Gypsy Diamond ran her usual honest race, coming from midfield one off the fence with cover, to be closest at the finish without ever really threatening. Zanbagh continues to impress this time in. She finished on very well from last and widest into the straight to miss third in a photo finish. She will improve for the run and more distance; she is right on track for the ATC Oaks (Gr 1, 2400m). The first and second favourites, Guelph (8th) and Sweet Idea (7th) were both disappointing. Guelph was trapped four wide without cover back in the field. She was one of the first horses to come under pressure and found little in the run to the line, there is obviously something amiss with this top class filly. While Sweet Idea took a forward position but found very little in the straight. *ANZ
