Chris Waller-trained three-year-old Pound Sterling scored a promising first-up win, his first win in three starts to date. He began quickly from his wide barrier (9) and crossed to settle outside the leader (California Elite) before going to the front nearing the home turn. He held a good break at the 200m and went on to score comfortably, handling the Heavy10 conditions well. Peter and Paul Snowden-trained Ebenos, racing on debut, was trapped widest of all from his outside barrier (10) before improving (deep) from the 600m. He went to second at the 200m and fought very well to hold that position after a difficult trip. His stablemate, California Elite led the field until approaching the home turn and then held on to take the minor placing, also racing on debut.
