Schweppes Mdn Plate
The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained three-year-old Calanda impressed in winning here. Having only his second race start, resuming after his debut second in a Two-Year-Old Maiden (1000m) at Hawkesbury in July, he began well and soon crossed to the lead. He then travelled well, easily fought off challengers on straightening and then went on to score comfortably, sprinting home in a quick 33.67. He looks a smart colt. The Les Bridge-trained Pelorus Jack was last in the six-horse field to the home turn and caught the eye running on well for second, putting up a promising effort at only his second race start.
