Godolphin-raced colt Osorno was quite impressive in scoring a first-up win here, his first success in six starts to date. He settled in second last place (wide with cover) in the 11-horse field from his wide barrier (10) before improving (deep) nearing the home turn. He then came with a strong late bid to score, seemingly with something in hand, by a neck. Gain Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained filly Echo Gem was smartly away from her outside barrier (11), settled in fourth place, took the lead on turning for home and then battled on well for second just in front of the Clare Cunningham-trained trained filly Onthetake who ran on well from last at the home turn, when clear for a close-up and unlucky third.
