Team Hawkes-trained colt Exceedance staged a most impressive performance in winning here on debut. He settled well back in second last place in the ten-horse field, went deep (and was under pressure) coming to the home turn but then responded surprisingly well, storming home to grab a decisive victory in a really smart effort. He is a horse to watch. The Godolphin-raced colt Shielded raced in seventh place, got between runners at the home turn, went to second at the 100m and then fought on nicely to retain that position from the Mark Newnhamtrained filly Blazing Miss, who set a quick tempo in the lead before holding on to take third.
