Japan’s Maurice was most impressive in winning here, his third Group One race in succession. He travelled well in seventh place, one off the rails, until passing the 600m. He eased out to commence his bid shortly after turning for home, put in a strong run to challenge on passing the 200m, hit the front at the 100m and drew clear to score in brilliant fashion from a quality field. Giant Treasure settled well in sixth place on the rails, got through on the inner on turning for home, challenged on passing the 200m and fought very well for a good second, just finding the winner too classy. Favourite Able Friend was held up back in ninth place, one off the rails, by Joao Moreira until nearing the home turn. He switched out on turning for home, showed his brilliant turn of foot and looked the winner when he loomed up at the 150m and then fought well from that point for a good third after seeming to have his chance in the closing stages.
