Giant Treasure settled well in fifth place on the rails, following a moderate early tempo (first 1200m 1:11.57). He angled for a rails run on straightening, got through at the 200m and after hitting the front at the 150m, fought back well in the sprint home (last 400m 22.69) to win in a three-way photo. Luger travelled really well behind the slow early pace, racing in sixth place, one off the rails. He switched out on straightening, challenged at the 200m and fought strongly for a very good second. The favourite Contentment had an ideal trip in third place on the rails, got a split to be in a challenging position at the 200m and battled strongly for a close-up third.
