The Paul O’Sullivan-trained Aerovelocity began well from his good barrier (2) and settled in fourth place, one out and one back, tracking a solid tempo (first 800m 46.02). He got a split to challenge on passing the 300m, took the lead nearing the 100m and then held on for a narrow but good win in the quick time of 1:08.80. Lucky Bubbles settled back in ninth place, switched deeper and into clear running on turning for home and then came with a late-closing run to take a very good second. Peniaphobia was smartly away from his inside barrier and went straight to the front. He then set a good pace, held the front until then 100m and then held on to take a close-up third. Of the others, the Australian runners Takedown raced in sixth place (between runners), put in a run from the 300m and kept making good ground, albeit without looking a winning chance, to finish (1.9 lengths) sixth in a very sound effort while Rebel Dane had a difficult trip in fourth place (three wide, without cover) on a solid pace and tired from the home turn to finish (4.5 lengths) 11th.
