Barneswood Farm Stakes (G3)

Age: 3yo Type: OPEN

This G3 3yo 1400m event was won by the favourite Kali, a North Island trained filly, that came from the outside gate and sat third wide in the open The on pace bias was blatant with eight of the nine winners coming from first, second , third or fourth on the home turn and two and a half lengths from the leader was maximum deficit overcome. The winners and where they turned for home in race order were fourth (two-off the inside and a length and a half from the leader), eighth (eight-off the inside and two and a half lengths from the leader), third (four-off the inside and half a length from the leader), second (one-off the inside and a length from the leader), led (one-off the inside and a neck in front), second (one-off the inside and neck from the leader), led (two-off the inside and a head in front), third (two-off the inside and half a length from the leader) and fourth (one-off the inside and a length from the leader). Kali was one of nine fillies in the field of thirteen and she was superior today having been luckless in her prior start when never seeing fully clear air. She was able to race wide near the pace relaxed without cover then strode up and led at the 300m to then hold on well by half a length to clock 1:24.87. The time was the best of the day for this trip and also showed she will have no issues with the mile in the G1 1000 Guineas in three weeks time. Today was her third win from four starts and her first Blacktype win in what is shaping now as an Oaks Stud (either bred and/or owned) dominated 2000 and 1000 Guineas over the second week in November. Karalino ran on strongly from the midfield and is improving with every start this campaign regards tractability and ringcraft. Folk Dress had every chance from the trail while Far Site ran on well after being tardy and last away, Hot Tap at $91 ran on well the closing stages after being last turning for home. Zelenski was only fair and he has disappointed his last two runs overall while Bronte Beach was not too bad. Miss Federer led up and gave in meekly showing she is a sprinter only while El Gladiador sat back in the rear trio and wide and plugged closer. Kitty Power was outclassed and On Show was a big flop for a fifth favourite but she had an elevated heart rate post race and was found to be heavily in season. He's Got Power was outclassed and the third favourite Okay Pal sat second the outer then stopped badly to finish a clear last beaten over thirty-three lengths. He was found post race to have a high heart rate and poor recovery. This was a dubious race for strength and the winner Kali if she can sit wide and beat these then they are going to struggle to ever beat her if she gets a normal sit against them. Karalino and Folk Dress have more progress to come but in regards the G1 1000 Guineas it does appear Kali has all the fillies here covered.
