The wonder run at stakes level continues for the Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman stable when Decorah was too good in this G3 event for fillies and mares. The track at Awapuni was an absolute bog and Decorah won the 2000m feature in 2:12.89 to show just how awful the gluey footing was. Decorah was ridden by Opie Bosson to win her sixth race today and the mare has won on all types of footing. She raced handy then basically outswam her rivals but such was the testing Awapuni track the mare was distressed after the race and required attention. Emerald Queen ran on stoutly for second after also racing handy mostly albeit wide at times. Flying Orca fought gamely for third after being handy and wide at times and the first three home were significantly well clear of the rest at the line. Sea Eagle ran on okay late from the back at big odds while Gwynethanne plugged on late and is an improver for next time out. Celebrity Miss got found out under WFA and the rest did too though Smartly, which had performed at this level before, was simply poor. This was not a strong field and the result was more though the track being so boggy so impossible to treat it as a legitimate outcome for future reference. It only stands up for wet track form in the future and holding if you needed to be more specific. Decorah if she is okay has more wins in store over winter and Emerald Queen will always pay her way once back in the South Island. Flying Orca and Gywnethanne can get a stakes win before the end of the season either at handicap level or against their own sex.
