This Prestige Hurdle (3350m) saw Tommyra score narrowly having not saluted for almost a year. The footing presented at Ellerslie was a testing Heavy holding and the margins back to most of the also rans all day was absolutely colossal. The winners and where they turned for home in race order were co-leader (one-off the inside), led (four-off the inside and a length and a half clear), led (six-off the inside and two lengths clear), second (twelve-off the inside and a head from the leader), fifth (thirteen-off the inside and a length and a half from the leader), led (fifteen-off the inside and a neck clear), third (fourteen-off the inside and a length from the leader), fourth (eighteen-off the inside and two lengths from the leader) and led (thirteen-off the inside and a length clear). Tommyra settled back but improved up second across the top and led two fences from home then just held on to score by a neck in 4:05.54. It was his third hurdle win from six attempts and overall for the rising 7yo was his seventh success in forty-five starts. Letmeby a rising 12yo fresh up raced ninth and was fifth wide across the top then fourth turning for home and third at the 350m before being left second two fences from home. He kept coming and almost got there. Delegate settled well back the inner and was through sixth across the top and worked off and fifth turning for home before being hampered two fences out. He was fourth at the 200m and third at the 100m and ended up just under six lengths form the winner at the line. No Change was fifth mostly and left fourth with two fences to go and reached third at the 200m before being fourth at the 100m. Hesalljazz raced midfield the inner and came through closest in to challenge across the top then turning for home turn third before being hampered like many two fences out due to a faller that tried to get back up. Yadarm was on the pace mostly and never far away until drifting back quickly across the top to be eighth turning for home and well beaten then got hampered two fences out. Raisafuasho settled down second last and was ninth turning for home before being badly checked two fences out. Raaj was sixth wide then fourth wide before challenging across the top then weakened and was hampered with two fences to go. Duffers Creek was handy wide then drifted to seventh wide before being let stride up from fifth at the 800m to lead across the top to the home turn. He fell at the second last fence and caused chaos when trying to get up quickly only to be struck by a rival and spun around violently. Clapathunda, Henry Tudor and Wee Biskit all pulled up. The former led up then when joined down the backstraight was headed across the top and stopped to be eleventh turning for home then got hampered two fences out before being pulled up a fence out. The middle name raced handy throughout then drifted out across the top to be tenth turning for home before being hampered two fences out then pulled up with one fence to go. The latter settled last on her own and was pulled up two fences from home when not competitive. This was not a very strong field at all and the faller two fences out caused all sorts of incidents so a lot of forgives in the result for sure.
