The winner of this Prestige K S Browne Hurdle over 3350m was Arite Guru and the 9yo gelding raced fourth the outer then went up and led with 1000m to go. He was a length clear across the top and well clear turning for home then went on to score by nine lengths in 5:16.89. The winners and where they came from turning for home were led (seven-off the fence and by a neck), fifth (seven-off the fence and two lengths from the leader), led (thirteen-off the fence and a neck in front), led (seven-off the fence and two lengths in front), led (fourteen-off the fence and a neck in front), led (fourteen-off the fence and a neck in front), led (eighteen-off the inside and a neck in front), third (eighteen-off the inside and a long neck from the leader) and fourth (fourteen-off the inside and length and a half from the leader). It was the fifth win in ninety starts and his second as a Hurdler for Arite Guru and today he was ridden by Hamish McNeil, who is a very much in form jumps rider of late. He ran third beaten over nineteen lengths in a Premier Hurdle over 3200m in August last year where the winner was Tommyra and today it ran fourth beaten almost ten and a half lengths, so the turnaround was colossal. The bottomless Heavy footing today also saw six leaders win in the atrocious conditions and the other three winners were running third, fourth and fifth with the farthest from the leaders on the home turn being two lengths. It really was an absolute bog today and the 1200m events were run in over 1:18 and 1:19 while the Rating 74 mile was run and won in 1:46.55 and the two 2200m events posted 2:35.76 and 2:38.49. Second home was El Luchador that raced second last and then improved fourth between runners a lap out before reaching second 1000m from home. The also 9yo gelding then chased in vain thereafter and just held onto his second placing at the line. Third home was Magic Cannon after he raced in the lead early then settled in the trail (third or fourth) the inner before being worked off and sixth at the 1000m. He improved fourth at the 600m and reached third turning for home before missing the runners up spot by a nose. Fourth home and beaten almost ten and a half lengths was Tommyra that raced fifth the inner early then was worked off and seventh mostly before improving wide to sixth across the top. He came up fourth turning for home and fought on well to finish in that position beaten just under ten and a half lengths. The fifth finisher was Locharburn that was beaten almost twenty-three and a half lengths after racing sixth wide deep and then coming second wide at the 600m before stopping badly to be fifth turning for home. The only other runner to finish was No Change that led mostly but once headed at the 1000m stopped badly and he was beaten almost thirty-seven and a half lengths. The other two runners Class Above and El Disparo were both pulled up two fences from home when well beaten. This was not a vintage field at all and quite an ageing one too with all the runners being aged bar the 6yo Locharburn. The first two home were 9yo's as were the fourth finisher and one of the pulled up runners. There were two 8yo's and one 12yo as well. The bottomless footing made for a massive on pacer bias all day (both flat and fencing races) and no surprise in that all four jumps races today were won by the leaders turning for home.
