This G3 over 2100m for 3yo fillies saw some stocks rise in regards the G1 NZ Oaks (2400m) in just over a fortnight but also a few runners went too poorly to press on. Bonneval came with a sustained finish to get up and score on the line in the manner of a filly that will cope with 300m more no problems. She was dropped out last early in a solidly enough run race before improving wide with cover across the top. The way she set out after the eventual runner up, which had what looked a winning break with100m to go, showed a filly with that will to win no matter what. The nostril margin came in 2:09.45 and was her third win in six starts with the G3 today going with a G2 scored at her previous outing. The time and manner of the victory is very significant as four of the winners on the card were leaders and no other winner came from further back than fifth turning for home. This filly was eighth and wide across the top but had cover and moved into fifth just before the home turn, plus the race prior for older horses in a Benchmark 75 saw an easy all the way winner in 2:10.64. Bonneval therefore ran over five lengths superior and that is a good sign indeed. Savvy Dreams at her first blacktype attempt sat back but improved fifth wide across the top before moving up an ominous third turning for home and then striding into the lead with 200m to go. She looked home and hosed until nailed on the line. After having yet to run a poor race Savvy Dreams looks like one of those fillies that has come good at the right time with the promise of more to come. Devise ran a gamer third and was the first runner home from near the pace after sitting fourth then moving wide across the top and in effect towed up her conquerors. She fought well for third and now has been G2 placed once and G3 placed twice. Nicoletta, the stablemate of the winner, sat outside the pace second and then took the front before the home turn so was a sitting duck thereafter. Once headed at the 200m she fought well but has already this season won at G3 and finished runner up at G2. Fashionably caught the eye warming up nicely too late from back in the field and is another filly coming good at the right time of the season. There was a five and a half length gap back to the next filly home Korakonui, which was running on from well back. Grand Soleil ran on too at the finish and looks a moral back to her rightful maiden class. The rest either weakened out or stopped from being non-stayers, the footing was not wet enough or they simply got outclassed. The first five home were very dominant so they all have serious Oaks prospects indeed at Trentham on March 18. Trentham however is a much roomier track that Hastings and more testing so making a too early run there would be a very unwise move.
