This Listed 3yo only 1200m event under set weights and penalties saw some runners go far too hard early and be spent forces the run home. The depth of the field was dubious and most of these may well be wet trackers as the footing presented today provided a bias towards those in or near the pace all day bar one race and the winner of that Te Akau Shark looks gifted but it may well be just on rain-affected footing. Cyber Attack settled down sixth the outer not spending a penny and then got a run through near the home turn to be third as they straightened up. The gelding by an in form sire Shamexpress, which is leaving lots of swimmers, reached second at the 200m and then led at the 100m before hanging on to win by half a neck in 1:12.53 (the best time of the day for 1200m). It was the third win in seven starts for Cyber Attack that races in the Bonecrusher colours but is nowhere near him in ability and in fact in a different area code. Cyber Attack is a wet tracker as in two runs on dead footing has not paid a dividend and all his form has come on slow footing. It was his first Listed win having run second earlier in his career at this level beaten two lengths behind a wet track filly in Peaceful. To show this race was run upside down and the depth is suspect we saw two maidens fill the placings with Cavallo Veloce second and his stablemate Sagunto third. Cavallo Veloce has now run second in all his three runs and today the colt sat sixth wide before going up fourth wide across the top to the home turn. He kept coming the closing stages to reach second at the 50m and was very brave plus it means he has now finished runner up at Listed level in his last two outings. He would be odds on in an all maiden field if ever tackling that grade in the future. Sagunto raced fifth the inside and then lost his spot to be eighth across the top and then ran home gamely indeed to get third on the post. His draw helped undoubtedly looking at the track bias all day but he too would be odds on back to all maidens on this effort, a first outing at blacktype level. Qiji Express was a tad weak overall after leading then taking a sit fourth the outer before moving up third wide near the home turn. He challenged turning in and led at the 300m and 200m before being caught and headed at the 100m then wilting to lose third on the post. The colt is by the same wet track sire as the winner and maybe he was a fraction underdone and will be fully cranked up for the Hawkes Bay Guineas on October 6, if he gets there as may need another run to satisfy his trainers and connections. Sir Nate fought on okay for fifth after racing handy the inner but was a tad disappointing too like Qiji Express. He was fifth at the 200m and fought on but looked like he needs better underfoot conditions to really let go properly. King Louis, a maiden, ran a brave sixth as he was wide working early and then attacked for the front before taking it and still racing greenly. He never came back underneath his rider and was headed at the 300m but fought on okay to be beaten just over two lengths. If he did not over-race would be a winner in waiting for sure and like a couple of others in this is an odds victor if put back to an all maiden event. Allacciato on debut was the rank outsider but ran an eyecatching seventh beaten just over three lengths after being away awkwardly and second last on settling. The filly ran home gamely and would be certainty back to all maidens like a few others in this. Stella Noire was heavily backed fresh up but never looked a possibility after settling down eighth and she can be excused to some extent because of track bias and also until seen out clockwise again for directional preference. Tiny Terror showed why New Zealand bettors are perennial head-scratchers when running a well beaten ninth over seven lengths from the winner Cyber Attack, a horse he beat on debut into third. The gelding, also by the same wet track sire, was used early to attack for the lead then got it only to be taken on himself before handing up. He will need to be ridden in a less tank-emptying early manner as clearly cannot do it at both ends. After You was slow out and last away and never looked any hope thereafter to tail them in beaten by eleven and a half lengths. This race was a bit crazy the first 600m so some can be given another chance but it looks a wet track result in the main and so many maidens ran rippers to confirm the depth was debatable. It is a very recent upgraded to Listed status 3yo race and the depth of this does look a dubious running therefore how many of these will be top of the ground 3yo forces this season is the true key question. The biggest future tick for this is so many maidens runners that would be morals back to their proper grade so this race is at the moment much more a Black booker for bettors rather than a Blacktype event of any merit.
