Spanish Whisper, an Australian bred filly, won by the smallest of nostril flares and made it now two wins from three starts with her other outing being a second behind the since Karaka Millions winner Avantage. This filly was not eligible for that rich Sales specific event and today was her first left-handed outing so she showed dash and determined fight with the winning time 1:11.05. This was a length and a quarter slower than the G3 colts and geldings daylight winner Sword Of Osman but still a respectable time. She’s A Thief, which had finished fourth in the Karaka Millions, went down slugging it out by the barest of margins. The Real Beel, which had finished tenth in the Karaka Millions, ran on for third beaten almost three lengths after settling down sixth the outer and being fifth across the top. Valalie after being crowded at the start and clearly last away and one of two in the rear trio away from the jump unintentionally ran on well for fifth beaten just over three lengths. She was clearly cost third money and a G2 placing by being crowded at the start, so what happens at the start matters. This was anything but a perfect dispatch so once again disregard the commentary in the replay as it simply is not reality and for important blacktype races that is magnified tenfold. Lady Lira on debut sat fourth the outer and wilted but back to her proper grade is a winner in waiting. Autumn Wild showed speed but weakened the run home but back to all maidens can win a race before the end of the season. Platinum Mam’selle was the other runner crowded at the start and is clearly one of three away not on a par with the rest though one of them (Imelda Mary) was intentionally snagged back from a wide gate. The visitor Platinum Mam’selle therefore can be forgiven and ran on like she would like 1400m now. The rest were outclassed but Imelda Mary is forgivable as being restrained to the back was precisely the wrong thing on a biased raceday toward on pacers. Valalie was cost third money and a valuable G2 placing after being crowded at the start and once again disregard totally the replay commentary saying the race was ‘a perfect dispatch’ as that is not reality nor is it helping blacktype racing being supposedly a notch above regular racing. Three runners are clearly not away properly and two of them were crowded (one was intentionally restrained at the start) so if that is ‘a perfect dispatch’ then a dictionary definition may need a Worldwide update! Sadly in the G3 colts and geldings feature earlier today an even more specific term of ‘an absolutely perfect dispatch’ was used and neither helps the credibility of blacktype racing as both race start statements are pure fantasy and the facts do not support either race both visually and in Stipendiary stewards reports. The start matters most in all thoroughbred racing and at Group level that is highlighted even more, so runners not away properly (either not by their own fault or self-inflicted) do deserve to have their efforts given accurate and proper justice. Reality is paramount in Group and Listed thoroughbred racing let alone the regular run of the mill races that happen hundreds of times each week and keeping the race starts reported as what they actually are is crucial because perception matters most in this wagering dependent sport.
