Fasttrack Ins. Oaks Prelude (LR)

Age: 3yo Sex: F Type: OPEN

This Listed 3yo filly only over 1800m saw the best filly on form shown so far this season win easily in Elate over the still best maiden in the land namely Clementina. The rail was out 5m and saw an already massively biased towards leaders and the insides lanes New Plymouth track become an even more manmade biased course all day. The winners and where they turned for home in race order were led (length clear the inside), third (trail leaders inner and a length away), led (neck clear inner), co-leader (two-off the inside), fifth (three-wide and two lengths from the leader), led (length clear the inner), third (four-off and a length from the leader) and fourth (one-off and a length and a half from the leader). No winner came from further back than two lengths from the leader or worse than fifth plus four of the leaders won and two trailing the leaders won. Elate was back and wide early from a poor draw and the moment the leaders applied the brakes up front with many riders not trusting the stamina or breeding of their mounts at all this filly was set alight. Around she was sent and went up to take the front midrace and then shrugged off a brief challenge across the top then went clear to win by over a length and a quarter in 1:51.59. It was her second win in nine starts and her first Blacktype victory and goes with a G3 second in December of 2018. Clementina until today had not paid a dividend on raceday but had been running eyecatchers at G2 and G3 prior. She settled well back the inner and worked off the top before being sixth turning for home then uncorked a big finish to get second on the post. Jakkalbomb was a brave third after being wide early and going up second then she was third the outer midrace to the home turn. She was second back two lengths at the 200m and 100m chasing in vain the eventual winner and lost the runner up spot on the post. Not Santa trailed the leaders on the inner and fought on well for fourth while Misha's Star, a last start maiden winner, was deep before getting the front then handed up only to have a look again for the lead across the top. Vee Cece settled down second last and was noticed running on late well. Easy M'Lady raced fourth of fifth and fought on fairly while Schist ran on the inner from well back on settling. Chickaberinda was back and wide but did not give it away the run home. The rest were just fair or disappointing but manmade track bias was to blame in the main. Elate showed her Oaks credentials today as that ability to be used early and then take the front and keep rolling is another string too her tactical quiver as a racing filly. Clementina was super again and she could win the Oaks as a maiden if unable to salute between now and then, such is her run on ability. Jakkalbomb was G3 placed prior to today so like the winner had the next best Stakes form coming in and did not disappoint after doing work early. The eyecatcher late from back and deep was Vee Cece and she looks a name to remember for future Blacktype this season. The blatant manmade track bias flattered many performances at the finish so this whole days racing has that big mark of doubt as back onto a big roomy track without the obvious assistance several will be exposed. Two or three of this field have Oaks prospects but the jump from 1800m to 2400m is colossal for fillies and many of these were not bred for stamina or to ever stay.
