This Listed 1200m Open Handicap on a very biased towards on pacers Otaki track drew an average field of eleven runners and just three of them were older male gallopers (one 6yo and two 8yos) The winners and where they turned for home in race order were third, led, led, led, led, co-leader wide, led and led, so this was a very biased track indeed. It was almost a perfect eight out of eight leaders turning in as the first race winner came up third and just a neck away from the leaders turning in, so vast numbers of every race had no chance to salute before the gates opened. Gift Of Power had not been able to win as 4yo until today after running in Benchmark 82 (four grades inferior) three times prior but after working to get the lead never looked like being headed and won by two and a half lengths. She carried the minimum of 53kg and ran 1:09.59 to win her ninth race in eighteen starts and today was her first blacktype victory. Cut in the ground is ideal for the mare so she got the right footing and blatant track bias to suit her racing pattern today. Rock 'N' Affair ran home strongly from seventh on settling but closer turning for home and it was her first ever attempt at Blacktype. Sweepstake ran on okay for third having settled down fifth the inner but was almost a length from second. Amastar ran on okay late for fourth after settling down sixth and coming wide near the home turn in what was her first ever attempt at Blacktype. Indecision the favourite was weak the closing stages after being in a speed dual early before handing up and sitting second chasing the eventual winner thereafter. She had every chance and the winner was wide attacking early so did more work therefore it was a thoroughly disappointing fifth beaten over six lengths and maybe the 57.5kg was her downfall. Belle Du Nord ran on eyecatchingly from last after being tardy and second last on settling then coming the widest runner turning in. The rest were poor and the male gallopers all flopped big time. Belle Du Nord is the next up winner out of the race as long as it is on a track that backrunners or closers are not penalized by manmade track bias. Sweepstake is in for another good campaign. The first four home all carried the minimum of 53kg. The blatant track bias makes this result very dubious as too many runners performed so badly and while some ran well not all could not show their true worth.
