This Listed mile saw an impressive Siracusa swamp them wide out and then hang on to win by a short head in 1:36.23 and score her first Blacktype win. The 4yo mare was last and wider midace then surged out deepest in the homestraight to lead at the 75m before just hanging on at the line. The winners and where they turned for home in race order were co-leader (three-off the fence), fourth (three-off the fence and length and a half from the leader), fourth (four-off the fence and two and a half lengths from the leader), co-leader (four-off the inside fence), led (one-off the fence and half a length in front), fifth (seven-off the fence and length and a half from the leader), tenth (ten-off the fence and three lengths from the leader), eleventh (on the fence and four lengths from the leader) and fifth (nine-off the fence and two lengths from the leader). Siracusa was having her third Blacktype outing today and had in two prior efforts run a good fourth at G3 over a mile beaten under two lengths and a fifth at Listed level over a mile beaten four and a half lengths. Her surge from the back around the entire field impressed and although she held on by almost the smallest margin possible it was her third win in a row. She has now won four of her eight starts and she can race close or be ridden back and cold, so she has weapons. Second home was the Australian bred Demonetization that raced eighth or ninth the outer then moved up fifth turning for home and led at the 300m and 150m only to be passed the final 75m. The 6yo gelding fought back gamely to go down narrowly and now on this track he has had five starts for two wins, two placings and a fourth. Le Castille ran a game third after turning for home last the inner then being worked off and reaching fifth at the 200m. The 6yo mare ran on well to get third the final 100m. Fourth home was a game Cherry Lane that raced fourth and wide to the home turn and stuck on gamely for fourth to be beaten less than three and a half lengths. Watch The Space ran on well from well back to the home turn to be fifth while Pinmedown fought on well for sixth beaten four and a half lengths after racing buried back on the inner. Sweet Clementine raced back and wide and improved across the top to the home turn and finished on okay for seventh beaten over five lengths. Go Nicholas ran eighth beaten over six and a half lengths after going up second early and lodging a bid turning for home. Ronchi was next home beaten over seven lengths after settling the pace and once headed at the 200m he weakened out. The rest got beaten seven and a half lengths and up to over fourteen lengths with the last runner home being the second favourite In A Twinkling that ran a shocker. He raced fifth or sixth to near the home turn then dropped out for an absolute shocker. Siracusa looks exciting and got a nice hattrick today and showed the ability to loop the whole field and sustain her run to prevail. Demonetization almost won and likes his home track. Several good efforts came in this race and it looks a solid future guide even though the footing was a tricky Dead5.
