This G2 mile has become a bit of an on pacer race like the G1 2000 Guineas (1600m) and the leader won today too in Battle Time. The 4yo never looked like being run down and scored by a length and a quarter to clock 1:34.93, so the pace was nothing swift but more constant throughout. Battle Time looked a weight special carrying 52kg as just four runs ago he was a luckless fourth beaten a length and three-quarters in a G1 mile at WFA behind Kawi and carried 58.5kg. Today was just his third win in twenty-one starts but the G2 win now goes with an already banked dual G1 placings and a G2 placing. Ringo ran home strongly from back and wide for second under the topweight of 59kg to repeat his runner up effort in this last year. Nashville was the other weight special in the race and ran on well for third when carrying just 54kg as a dual G1 winner. Seventh Up ran a sound race for fourth in his first attempt at blacktype. Thee Auld Floozie had every chance trailing to the home turn while Stokers Rock was okay for sixth in just his ninth ever start and first blacktype outing. Charmont had every possible hope while My Chino was noticed running on okay late from the back. The rest never really stretched out the run home. Seize The Moment dropped out to finish last beaten almost twenty-nine lengths after being wide then going up third and working overtime. He is better than that and the firmer footing may have played a role too. This was not the strongest G2 field and while a 4yo won the runner up and third finisher are 7yo and 8yo geldings.
