Sth Island T'bred Breeders (G3)

Sex: FM WT: 53kg Type: OPEN

The track at Riccarton raced biased for the vast majority of the races today and this G3 fillies and mares only mile was no different with the leader La Fille En Jeu winning. The winners turning for home spots in all ten races in order were second, led, third, fourth, seventh, second, fourth, fifth, led and led. The rail was out 7m creating manmade track bias and the footing was a dank and sludgy Slow8, which created a holding nature and therefore more bias towards wet trackers. La Fille En Jeu soon led and was always a length at least clear left alone and she had put a big winning break on them halfway up the run home. The 6yo visiting mare from the Central Districts of the North Island tied up late to win by a long neck in a sedate 1:37.13 to win her eighth race in thirty-one starts. It was her first blacktype win at her eleventh attempt with the best effort being a Listed second otherwise she was out of the top three the other nine times. Elfee ran home strongly from worse than midfield the inner and got quite close at the line such was her sustained finish. She gained her first piece of blacktype and it came at her favourite trip the mile. Flying Sardine ran home well to get third albeit almost four lengths from the winner and also achieved her first piece of blacktype. Bella Court fought on fairly for fourth after a soft run fifth the inside while Residential from the trail battled away for fifth. Rideitlikeustoleit ran in late from well back as did Laaffaire and Bring To The Block plugged on the closest in the run home from the rear duo. Coulee disappointed after ending up second the outer while She'stoohottotrot was outclassed as was Smokehouse Bay. The filly Excelleration stopped badly to finish last and is clearly over the top needing a break or a freshen up, which she hinted at in her prior start when second as an odds on favourite and not producing her usual surge. This was a soft G3 lacking in depth and showed by the winner gaining her first piece of victory blacktype and the placegetters earning their first piece of blacktype ever. The manmade track bias and presented footing plated too big a role in this meeting and the outcome of this race, as it did all day and that means that asterisk or mark of dubiousness must be applied.
