The winner of this Listed event over 2147m was Our Boy Ritchie ridden by the apprentice rider Savish Khetoo and the 5yo locally trained gelding won by a head in 2:19.26. He raced seventh the outer then improved wide to challenge deep across the top and shared the lead wider turning for home. The winners and where they came from on the home turn were sixth (one-off the inside and two lengths from the leader), third (one-off the inside and two lengths from the leader), fifth (six-off the inside and five lengths from the leader), second (two-off the inside and a length from the leader), eighth (on the fence and three lengths from the leader), led (one-off the inside and four lengths ahead), sixth (nine-off the inside and three lengths from the leader), co-leader (seven-off the inside), fourth (five-off the inside and three lengths from the leader) and seventh (four-off the inside and three lengths from the leader). Today was his fifth win from twenty-eight starts and came at his first Blacktype outing, which resulted in a Listed success. His five wins have come from 2000m to 2200m and he has won on dead, slow and heavy footing so stamina is his calling. Runner up was the 9yo Gold'n'guru that was third up and after racing second the outer early was then fifth across the top before turning for home fourth. He too was ridden by an apprentice rider in Corey Campbell and sustained a game finish to reach second at the 50m and only missed winning by a head. His last win came back in October of 2018. Third home and just a nose from second was Rainman that was going for the hattrick. The 6yo gelding was fourth the inner then sixth across the top before working off and coming up fifth turning for home. The 6yo gelding sustained his run to be third at the 200m and just missed victory at the line. Fourth home was Dr Velocious that was beaten less than a length after racing third between runners and then challenged for the lead across the top to the home turn. He led early the run home before being headed at the 150m then was outfinished the closing 20m. Fifth home was Riviera Rock that raced eighth or ninth the outer and was seventh across the top to the home turn. He fought on okay to be fourth at the 100m and was beaten just over three lengths. Sixth home was Anythingcouldhappn that raced back tenth or eleventh the inner and ran on to be sixth at the 200m. He was beaten just under three and a quarter lengths. Wild Jack was next home beaten four lengths and the rest came in at regular intervals with the last finisher being He Ain't Heavy beaten over eleven and a half lengths. This was a solidly enough run test of stamina and the footing made it an ask too but the finish was tight and tense with less than a length separating the first four over the line. It was interesting that the first two home were both ridden by apprentice riders that could not claim in a Blacktype event.
