From her handy draw (3), Summer's Day began smartly and took up the perfect trail by the time the field settled. At the 1000m she tracked the leader (Aide Memoire) in third spot yet by the 600m she moved off the fence and sat outside the leader's flanks then soon after took over the pace. Rounding the last corner rider Vinnie Colgan set her alight and had a two length break as the field straightened. Colgan kept her going and at the 150m she'd extended her lead to three lengths and the race was in safe keeping, easing her slightly to be two and half lengths clear at the line in a very slow time of 1.35.74. Favourite Aide Memoire led early, trailed at the 500m then batted well in the deep conditions all the way to the finish. Designated Driver was midfield on the fence around the bend and into the straight then improved to third at the 200m. He then battled best of the rest in the home straight to hold third but was more than seven lengths from the winner.
