Sacred Star certainly wrapped up the title of New Zealand Sprinter Of The Year today with a second G1 win in a row. He was dominant prior in the G1 Telegraph (1200m) at set weights and penalties but still won by over a length in this G1 at 1400m under WFA conditions. The big Australian bred gelding loved the torrid pace set up front and was idling along three back the outer with rider Vinnie Colgan just wondering when he should let his charge go. After ambling up wider turning for home and looming large at the 300m Sacred Star took the lead at the 200m and was superior at the line in 1:20.81. They have broken 1:20 comfortably before at Te Rapa for 1400m so the time is slick but earlier in the day a Ratings 75 was won by a mare in a second inferior (six lengths) for proper perspective. He will again have a Queensland winter campaign as the sprinters likely to be assembled in Sydney this autumn for the Championships are looking an awesome bunch of pace and power. Natuzzi ran on well as usual for second and showed fast time and WFA do not bother him at all. Spin Doctor loves this track and ran on for third while Diademe fought well for fourth and was the first runner home that race handy to the speed on settling. Pussy O’Reilly ran on okay late and could capture a decent race this autumn. Tomorrowland was better than he showed at Trentham prior in the Telegraph but track bias does come into play regarding giving a false form reading. However he was at least the first runner home that disputed the pace with a four length or more margin over his co-attackers at the line. Atlante was a flop but found to have suffered cardiac arrhythmia so can be forgiven. He was never ever a G1 horse in Australia so was trying to get this for his stallion career plus his lone G1 win came as a 3yo at Riccarton in New Zealand. Give him one more chance after today. Silver Eclipse is not G1 standard at WFA at this point. Two of three drag racing for the front early in The Filly and Eight Schillings finished second last and last unsurprisingly.
