The winner of this G3 3yo only event was the fresh up Australian bred filly Imperatriz that raced fourth the outer then third and moved up wider turning for home. She sustained her run to lead at the 50m and scored by three-quarters of a length in 1:11.57 to remain undefeated in three runs. The winners and where they came from were third (four-off the inside and half a length from the leader), second (five-off the inside and a head from the leader), led (one-off the inside and two lengths in front), led (one-off the inside and half a length in front), third (five-off the inside and a length from the leader), fourth (seven-off the inside and length and a half from the leader), fourth (one-off the inside and length and a half from the leader), fifth (five-off the inside and two lengths from the leader), led (six-off the inside and a neck in front) and led (four-off the inside and a head in front). Of the nine races held today six of the winners turned for home first (four), second (one) or third (two) and the others turned in fourth (twice) and fifth (once) but all of them were never far from the action on straightening up. The track bias was once again colossal at this sand-slitted venue. Imperatriz has now won on Good, Dead and Slow footing to show her versatility and today was her second Blacktype success after a G2 win as a juvenile. She looks to be a filly with size and scope that tries so hard regardless of the footing or direction. Runner up was the stablemate I Wish I Win that sat second the outer then led turning for home and only got run over late. He was G1 runner up as a juvenile so has the ability but also has only been raced left-handed, which is an intriguing factor at this stage. Third home was Farrenc at $16, ridden by the apprentice Taiki Yanagida, that also was resuming and she ran on strongly after racing fifth most of the race She was however beaten over two and a half lengths at the line. Fourth home and beaten almost seven lengths was Doubtful Sound, with the Australian bred colt starting a clear third favourite. He raced sixth and came up wider on the home turn but never kicked on and was very disappointing. The other three runners got beaten over seven lengths and up to over eight lengths away at the line with the fifth finisher Magneto an improver. This was not a super-strong 3yo G3 event and was raced on a very biased Te Rapa track so did not really display too many true hands in the process. The first two home have good ability and breeding but whether they are the top of their age group for female and males come the G1 races is still a query.
