This Prestige Hurdle over 3400m saw a very much in-form stable of Paul Nelson and Corrina McDougall score with No Tip at what was just his third ever outing as a hurdler. No Tip won his maiden hurdle two starts prior right here at Trentham on a bog so today's bottomless track once again held no fears. The winners on the day and where they turned for home in race order were led (five-off the inside by three lengths), fourth (seven-off the inside and three lengths from the leader), fifth (four-off the inside and three lengths from the leader), led (four-off the inside and a length ahead), led (five-off the inside and five lengths ahead), led (two-off the inside and a length ahead), second (on the fence and three lengths from the leader) and second (three-off the inside and half a length from the leader). The rising 8yo was sixth or seventh early and in fact sat last with 1000m to go and was still in the rear on the outer across the top before moving up into fifth turning for home. He sustained a strong run to reach fourth at the 300m and second at the 200m before leading with 100m to go and going on to score by two and a quarter lengths in 4:32.82. It was his third win from just nine starts for the lightly tried gelding and as a jumper he has now had three hurdle runs for two wins and a fourth Bad Boy Brown sat back early before moving up wide third midrace and then settled third the outer before reaching second across the top. The also rising 8yo was chasing in vain thereafter and was third at the 200m and 100m but kept trying hard and regained second with 20m to go. Laekeeper raced third early then started to pulled hard so took the front midrace and was giving a good sight still until the final 200m when the eventual winner loomed large and headed him at the 100m. El Corby was on the pace early then settled down fourth before being fifth midrace only to poke through into third at the 600m. He battled away the run home and was fourth at the 200m and ended up beaten six and a half lengths but had every possible chance. The gaps widened thereafter with Adequacy after settling down last plugging away for fifth beaten over ten lengths. Arite Guru led up then once headed stopped badly and was the last to finish in sixth and got beaten over twenty-five lengths. Tommyra and Gallante both pulled up with the former withdrawn three races from home and the latter, a clear favourite, withdrawn four fences out. This result was more to do with what handled the very testing Trentham mud and proving that was the fact that in of the four jumps races held today a staggering twelve runners were pulled up in the running. Alarmingly for bettors pockets of those dozen non-finishers two were clear favourites and two were clear second favourites and one was a third elect on the tote.
