This Listed Open Handicap over 1200m saw a clear cut win to the North Island raider in Sheezallmine on Dead6 track conditions, with the 5yo mare scoring an easy length and a half win in 1:12.11. It was her second Blacktype win and her sixth win from just sixteen starts. The winners and where they came from on the home turn in race order were led, (three-off the inside and two lengths ahead), third (four-off the inside and three lengths from the leader), third (four-off the inside and length and a half from the leader), second (two-off the inside and a length from the leader), led (one-off the inside and two lengths clear), second (on the fence and half a length from the leader), led (four-off the inside and a head in front) and fourth (four-off the inside and two and a half lengths from the leader). Sheezallmine was having today her eighth run at Blacktype and has now won at G3 at Riccarton versus her own sex and Listed level versus all comers. To show her consistency and honesty she has finished second at Listed level in the South Island and also has finished fourth twice at G3 in the North Island in very competitive fields. The mare was tenth last season in the G1 Telegraph behind Avantage, which after winning the G1 Railway on New Years Day in 2021 made it five G1 wins. Sheezallmine was a class above this lot and in her lead up event ran a good sixth at G3 in the North Island behind Levante, which ran a ripper third in the G1 Railway this year. Second home today was Tobilicious that came from last midrace and ran home strongly down the outer. Khimar War ran on well for third after settling well back the outer then coming through the field up a middle route. Shirley Maude ran a brave fourth after racing back and wide then going up deeper near the home turn and she actually reached second at the 100m before wilting. He Kin Fly got back but ran on the outer for fifth beaten just over two and a half lengths. Prince Oz, the stablemate, got back on the outer then came through one-off to be third at the 200m before wilting after starting third favourite. Our Girl Gilly worked hard to lead but was spent once headed at the 300m and finished almost five lengths behind the winner. The rest got beaten five lengths and up to over twenty-two lengths with Amastar running a shocking last. Wekaforce the second favourite ran a poor ninth beaten over six lengths after trailing third the inner most of the way. Light weights filled the first four positions and the track was a tad tricky at Wingatui today. The key was racing close as all the eight winners on the day raced first, second or third to the home turn bar the last race, as it was fourth and was not too far away turning in.
