Blood Tests For Patrick Erin

Melbourne Cup contender Patrick Erin has been scratched from the Bendigo Cup today due to a minor elevation in his temperature.

The Chris Waller stable reported that while his temperature remained within normal parameters, it was decided to err on the side of caution and scratch him.

A blood sample will be taken from Patrick Erin on Thursday and that will determine if he runs on Saturday at [Flemington in the Lexus Stakes with the view of qualifying for next Tuesday’s Melbourne Cup.

Patrick Erin is 38th on the order of entry for the Melbourne Cup despite his win in the G1 ATC Metropolitan at Randwick on September 29.

Meanwhile Waller is awaiting the results from a veterinary examination taken from his champion mare Winx on Tuesday.

Waller said Winx had emerged in good order from her fourth Cox Plate victory last Saturday but the results of Tuesday’s tests will help her connections determine her racing future.

"She went to the beach Sunday and Monday and she has a medical clearance and examination from inside and out.

“Hopefully we can get the thumbs-up to say she can press on for another run or two.

“She pulled up very well. Remarkably well."
