The Wayfarer set for Mildura success

The sixth race at Mildura is an interesting Benchmark 58 handicap set to take place over 1000m.

The Emma Hubbard-trained Flyin' For Us has been in good form this prep and he is expected to have his supporters.

The four-year-old returned to action with a second-place finish in a 900m maiden at Murray Bridge in January.

The gelding failed to shine when jumping at big odds for a metro contest at Morphettville Parks subsequently, but has shown winning form on both subsequent starts.

Those starts both came over 1100m at Clare including when triumphing by a length in a Benchmark 54 handicap.

Harry Coffey will have to negotiate a wide barrier if he is to partner the gelding to victory. However. and preference is for THE WAYFARER in this event.

The 4.80 selection placed on two of his first three starts this prep, including when beaten less than a length into third in a 975m Restricted 58 handicap at Swan Hill.

That effort came on a good 4 track and the six-year-old recorded his first win since February 2022 when saluting at this Benchmark 58 level over 1100m at Horsham next time.

Jockey Madison Lloyd, on board for that Horsham success, is back in the saddle here, with her mount having recorded two solid efforts in both subsequent outings.

Nathan Hobson's gelding again finished in the placings at Swan Hill in a 975m contest and, with a good alley, he is taken to record his second win of 2024.

Time to Prophet at Queanbeyan

The fifth race at Queanbeyan takes the eye with the 1000m Benchmark 58 handicap attracting a field of 13.

A soft 5 surface is expected, with Getty likely to jump as favourite following some good efforts this time around.

The gelding's best form has come on a soft surface, including when breaking his maiden by one-and-a-half-lengths over this distance at Canberra three starts back.

A six-length second when tackling a Benchmark 58 handicap over 1000m on a soft 7 track at Goulburn followed prior to a disappointing fifth on his return to Canberra.

The youngster was beaten over two-and-a-half-lengths into fifth in a Class 1 handicap at Canberra and, while better is expected here, it can pay to look elsewhere.

PROPHET TIME has been going well for trainer Gratz Vella this prep, with the filly recording two top three finishes from four starts since breaking her maiden at Wagga.

That Wagga triumph saw her come home half-a-length clear of her rivals when racing over 1000m on a good 4 track.

The 5.50 four-year-old has gone well on wet tracks in the past, most recently when a close second over 1065m at Wagga Riverside earlier this month.

The selection raced on a heavy 8 track when contesting a Class 1 handicap that day and, with an inside barrier here, she looks up to saluting under Damon Budler.

Indictment to deliver at Cairns

Four-time winner INDICTMENT takes the eye in the sixth race at Cairns. The race in question is a 1250m Benchmark 65 handicap set to take place on a soft 7 surface.

The six-year-old failed to shine when racing over 1000m in a Benchmark 65 handicap at Townsville, but he has shown improved form in his two subsequent outings.

The first of those efforts saw him beaten by a narrow margin, having jumped at odds of $31 for a 1200m Benchmark 60 handicap last month.

The 3.00 pick followed that effort up with a half-length second in a 1300m Benchmark 65 handicap held on a soft 5 track 4th April.

The gelding is a previous course and distance winner having won at Benchmark 55 level here in July last year and he is taken to register his first win of 2024.
