Saturday Post Mortem – July 15

3 minute read

Chris Scholtz reviews racing around Australia on July 15.

THE STARS

ADAM HYERONIMUS: First metropolitan treble just reward for the most improved rider in Sydney.

JAMIE KAH: Steaming towards the Adelaide riding premiership with another treble at Morphettville. The Adelaide punters lover her.

JASON COYLE: Rosehill double included a black type in the Winter Stakes. His stable has gone from strength to strength this season.

TIM MARTIN: He may have refined his stable numbers but his Rosehill double proves he is still among the most talented trainers in Sydney.

MICHAEL KENT/SUPIDO: One of Melbourne’s most astute trainers had this classy sprinter primed for a wining return. Didn’t let him down at short odds.

GERALD RYAN/WASHINGTON HEIGHTS: Takes skill to have a horse ready to win first-up after 412 days since he last raced in Hong Kong. Has the talent to be a Group horse if he stays sound.

MELISSA JULIUS: Another young lass chalks up her first Saturday metropolitan winner at Caulfield.

THEY SAID IT!

“He's an incredible horseman and helped me out teaching me more about the animal. It's hard to explain what he's got because not many people have it." - Adam Hyeronimus praises the training skills of Tim Martin.

“The blame falls at my feet, no doubt. It all started from my horse. She went hard right and I put her on to the boys on my outside. There was no intention to get the extreme movement that occurred.” – Dwayne Dunn explains the nasty incident at Caulfield that led to his 18 meeting suspension

"It's good to get that win out of the way because I was dying to get him a stakes win. It's the happiest I've been with him for a while." – A happy Mick Kent after Supido won the Monash Stakes.

“It was a bit of a long day but I knew she would be able to get me out of the hole, and she did.” - Beau Mertens relieved to hold on to his Melbourne premiership lead with a win on Schism.

“It hasn't really sunk in, I'm just over the moon. She's my new favourite horse of course.” Jess Taylor after winning the Winter Stakes on Slightly Sweet for her first black type success.

“It was always the intention to send him to Hong Kong and when he went sore I said 'Can we have him back?” – Gerald Ryan on the travels of Washington Heights.

"He was jumping out of his skin so why not bring him back? I wasn't overly confident but I knew he would try his little heart out because that's what he does." Country trainer Alecia Bennett after her first city Buddy Honest on a seven day back up.

"She has so much talent but she is a handful. If she couldn't gallop she wouldn't be here. At least I can have a scotch and cola at night to settle my nerves.” – Barry Lockwood take stock after Tumbler’s win at Caloundra.

"He's such a naturally talented horse. There's a lot of raw ability there at the moment and he's still working out what it's all about." - Adrian Bott on the potential of Seige Of Quebec

SIN BIN

BRANDON STOCKDALE: Has been getting plenty of kudos recently but his indecisive ride on Revolving Door at Caulfield goes on the black list. Simply gave the favoured runner no chance.

DWAYNE DUNN: Copped a suspension for causing chaos in race four at Caulfield on the winner Windbern. Amazingly there were no protests but the rules in any other country would have seen him relegated from first.

SHIRAZ: Lacking the obvious will to win. Warning issued over his racing manners after he tried to bite a rival in the drive to the line.

DATA POINT: Doubt he will be starting favourite in city class again.

LORD OF THE SKY: Comeback could be short lived.

BLACKBOOK

KIWIA: Ugly watch for his backers over the last 400m.

MARIQUiTA: Good lead into something longer in right class.

CALCULATED: Don’t sell him short. Will win good races.

IT'S SO OBVIOUS: Faced big jump from maiden class. Unlucky and did it well.

SAXTON ROCK: Nice prospect for Brisbane classes next season.

CHAMOIS ROAD: Forgive run. Certain to appreciate switch to senior rider.

GRAFTON CARNIVAL BLACKBOOKERS: Terrorfilo; Blackberry; Fraternater; Clever Blaze; Dubai Sights; Under The Thumb; All But Gone; Johnny Ge; Crooked Blaze.
