Lifesaver (Race 1) is a popular favourite at $1.95 in the opener having firmed a half point in early betting. He was just nosed out first up after winning both of his starts at his maiden campaign.

Alward (Race 4) has been heavily backed and is now into the red at $1.95, the best part of two points shorter than his opening price. The French import was an impressive winner at Flemington last start and the punters believe he can continue his progress.

King Viv (Race 5) could be worth an worth an each way ticket at $5.50 after tightening four-and-half points early. He steps up in grade but has been racing well including a win at this course last start.

Runaway (Race 6) is another that remains at each way value at $5.50 after firming two and a half points. He was strong when leading throughout last start and although he steps up to stakes company he looks progressive.

Selita (Race 9) opened at double figures but is now second pick in the betting having firmed six-and-a-half points to $4.60. The mare was placed when resuming after placing at stakes level last campaign and has raced well second up before.

Promising Bjorn Baker-trained colt Addictive Nature is now the winner of two of three starts and he did well in recording his first stakes success here. He was smartly away, went to the front but was pressured in the lead (by Runaway). He got a break on turning for home and then fought back really gamely to score a narrow but very good win. The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained colt Assimilate, a winner of his first two starts, settled in last place from barrier eight in the nine-horse field before going widest of all at the home turn. He then sprinted well, challenged at the 100m and kept finishing well for a very good second. Godolphin-raced colt Astoria settled in sixth place, one off the rails, moved up well at the 200m and kept battling on nicely to take a good third. Team Hawkes-trained colt Mahalangur raced back in seventh place (on the rails), switched deeper at the 300m and kept running on in good style for (2.2 lengths) fourth, in a really promising effort at only his second race start.
