Chris Waller-trained three-year-old Sambro, who has been racing consistently without winning recently, broke through for his second win (with seven placings) in 15 starts in scoring here, his first at Group level. He raced in sixth place, between runners, tracking a solid tempo, before improving behind the leaders at the home turn. He took a split at the 200m, challenged shortly afterwards and lifted gamely to win well. The favourite Victorem, a winner of his prior five starts, raced back in ninth place before moving up (widest of all) rounding the home turn. He then made a quick run and looked the winner as he challenged at the 100m, but had to make do with second after staging a very good effort. Beau Geste had a good trip in third place, moved up coming to the home turn and kept fighting on to finish third. The lightly-raced Team Hawkestrained filly Montrachet was back in eighth place and did well, stepping up in class here, in running on late for (3.3 lengths) fourth.
