WARWICK FARM TRIAL WATCH - August 10

3 minute read

Chris Scholtz reviews the Warwick Farm trials on Friday August 10.

This set featured two strong open company trials on the course proper over 800 metres.

The flying SUPER TOO won the first trial by 10 lengths, showing again that there are few quicker horses over a short course as she sailed along in a world of her own,

That said, her rivals were never asked to do any chasing. The high class trio SANTOS, BALL OF MUSCLE and OSBORNE BULLS all trialled well within themselves while further back the likes of EGG TART, IT'S SOMETHING and DUCA VALENTINOIS merely had conditioning trials.

Super Too sped over 800m in 46.31 (last 600m 33.1), a full 1.2 seconds quicker than the second 800m heat on the course proper won by SINGLE BULLET – safe to say you would want to be on Super Too in any race up to 900m (those 955m scampers at Moonee Valley are her go).

We know she can get 1000m if things pan out the right way for her.…but there is always that doubt!

The second trial did not have the same depth as the first heat but the enigmatic SINGLE BULLET certainly looked strong surging to the lead in the last 100m for his second trial win on his home track since he returned to work after being gelded.

FIVE TO FOLLOW

OSBORNE BULLS (James Cummings): I will be amazed if he doesn’t win a good race this spring. Having his first trial since May he was a hard held fourth in the fast heat won by Super Too and looks in great order to produce a big run first-up, more than likely in Melbourne.

SINGLE BULLET (Gary Portelli): We know he has the talent and being gelded could be the making of him as his two recent trial wins have been excellent. Impressed by the way he easily ran past the leader to win his heat with plenty in hand.

DEMERARA (James Cummings): Hugh Bowman would have had sore arms after holding down this classy mare to finish second behind stablemate Deity in the fastest 795m heat on the inside grass. No doubt she could have won the trial easily if given any rein - be ready for her to put in a big one fresh.

INVICTUS SALUTE (Mark Newnham): Lightly raced filly went straight from a provincial maiden win to a black type placing at Scone in May and judging by this impressive trial win she will have no trouble going on with it when she resumes. Led at her ease and never asked to extend to hold off her stablemate ON THE TOP. The latter also cruised through the line and appeals as a coming maiden winner.

PROPHET'S THUMB (David Pfeiffer): First trial for this I Am Invincible filly and she certainly made an impression in her 795m heat by closing strongly from last under no pressure to finish third. The way she made up six lengths in the last 200m stamped her as a filly with a future.

NOTED TRIALS: Super Too; Just Shine; Deity; Savatiano; On The Top; Glamour Factor; Kolding; Infinitely Perfect; Maid In Milan.
