Godolphin-raced import Avilius is now unbeaten in two Australian starts and he was impressive in scoring again here. He settled back in ninth place (on the rails), behind a good tempo, angled between runners nearing the 600m, eased into clear running at the 300m and then sprinted well, getting up to score, seemingly with something in hand, by a neck. He looks like to progress to good things in this country. The highly consistent mare I Am Serious raced in third place on the rails, got to the front at the 200m and then battled very gamely for second in another very honest performance. Testashadow raced in fourth place, moved up (under riding) on straightening and kept battling on nicely to take the minor placing. Dark Eyes worked in the early stages, racing very deep, from his outside barrier (13) to take the lead. He then held on well for (3.9 lengths) after his early efforts after running a bold race. The top weight (60kg) Auvray was back in eighth place, improved (under riding), deep from the 600m and kept making ground for fifth, beaten just over four lengths, in a promising first-up run in a distance short of his preferred trips.
