Godolphin-raced colt Encryption was a surprise $20 winner but he staged a nice effort, nevertheless, his second win and his second stakes success after winning the Black Opal Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) in March. He settled at the tail of the 12-horse field, racing on the Grandstand side, got along the outside rail (in a packed field) at the 200m and then sprinted quickly to grab a late-finishing win. Thorondor raced in sixth place, near the Grandstand side, got a split to challenge at the 200m and then battled on well for a good second. Tavisan raced outside the leader (Native Soldier), put pressure on that runner from the 800m and kept fighting on really well for third. Spin raced in the middle of a tightly packed field in about tenth place, got through to be in a challenging position nearing the 200m and held on well for fourth, beaten just over a length with the favourite Native Soldier holding on for fifth (2.2 lengths) after running a bold race in the lead.
