Appreciating the step up in distance, Ace High reclaimed the form that saw him take out back-to-back Group 1s this time last year with a very good win here, his fifth overall. He led out of the gates but rider Tye Angland was not interested in leading and allowed the entire to settle midfield (rails) past the 1600m. Angland angled him off the fence at the 800m to improve to fourth at the 500m, pulled wider into the straight to balance then went after the leader. He took over at the 200m and kept adding to his advantage to the line, never in danger and out by two lengths for a clear win. It's Somewhat was well back turning in, took a while to balance then ran on between runners for a solid second. The favourite Egg Tart made her run three wide from the 500m, challenged to be second then tried hard but couldn't find any extra to take the minor placing. One Foot In Heaven ran on wide out without looking like threatening the first three.
