Improved by two runs from a spell, last year's impressive Zipping Classic (Gr 2, 2400m) winner The Taj Mahal scored a very good win here. He worked in the early stages before settling nicely outside the leader (Silent Warrior). He got the better of that runner and went to the front approaching the home turn and then fought back gamely when challenged in the straight to win narrowly but well. Gallic Chieftain raced in last place in the nine-horse field, tracked up well (wide with cover) from the 600m, set out after the leader coming to the home turn and kept making good ground for a very good second in a really promising run at his second run this preparation. Sir Isaac Newton raced in seventh place (wide with cover), made a move (deep) coming to the home turn, went to third on straightening and fought nicely to take the minor placing. The favourite Trap For Fools was disappointing. He had a good trip in fifth place (between runners) but was under pressure coming to the home turn and just battled from there for seventh, racing well below his recent good form.
