Chris Waller-trained colt Charge staged a promising effort in winning here, his second win (with four placings) in nine starts and his first at stakes level. He showed good pace from his outside barrier (13) and soon crossed to the front. He then travelled well, was challenged nearing the home turn and then dug deep to score a narrow but very good win. Team Hawkes-trained Sunset Watch, a winner of three of his first five starts, settled in second place, moved up approaching the home turn, challenged strongly in the straight and then battled gamely for (long head) second. Ringerdingding settled at the tail of the 13-horse field, went widest of all rounding the home turn and caught the eye with his late-closing third. Matt Laurie-trained filly Bleu Roche, who has shown promise with a win and a second at her first two starts, settled back in 11th place, made a wide move from the 600m, moved up quickly to challenge at the home turn and then fought on well for fourth, beaten just over a length.
