After failing to gain a start as an emergency at Eagle Farm last Saturday interstate youngster Just Zerene has been heavily backed to make a winning debut at Doomben on Saturday in the $200,000 BJ McLachlan Stakes.

The Tony McEvoy-trained filly has been backed from $2.80 to $2 favourite with TAB.

Just Zerene accounts for 60 per cent of the TAB fixed odds win hold on the BJ McLachlan Stakes and will almost certainly become favourite for the Magic Millions 2YO Classic at the Gold Coast on January 12 if she wins on Saturday.

“Just Zerene opened $51 for the Magic Millions 2YO Classic on December 3 after official nominations were announced and has been supported into $6 with early bets of $400 at $51 and $500 at $26,” said TAB spokesman Trent Langskaill.

“Considering that almost half of the money placed on the Magic Millions 2YO Classic has been for Just Zerene she would become favourite over Dubious and Unite And Conquer if successful in the McLachlan Stakes.”

The Vo Rogue Plate at Domben on Saturday will have a bearing on the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas on January 12.

“Outback Barbie was valiant behind the highly impressive Zoustyle in the Gold Edition Plate at Doomben two weeks ago and is currently the $2.70 favourite with TAB after opening $4,” Langskaill said.

“Outback Barbie is presently the $4.50 second elect for the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas behind Native Soldier ($3.50) after he won the Christmas Stakes at Caulfield on Boxing Day.”
