Whispering Brook is now unbeaten in three starts this preparation and followed her good win in the Standish Handicap (Gr 3, 1200m) at Flemington on January 1 with another very good win here in this Group 2 race. She settled nicely for Mark Zahra in fifth place on the rails from her nice barrier (2), behind a solid pace. She improved on the inner nearing the home turn, got a split to hit the front on straightening and went on to score in very good style, her tenth win (four placings) from 23 starts. Fell Swoop began quickly and went to the front. He was then pressured in the lead and he fought back really well in the straight for second in a smart effort, especially considering the fast early pace. Land Of Plenty settled back in eighth place, tracked up (wide with cover) from the 700m, went deep at the home turn and continued to run on well for third in a very promising first-up effort over a distance short of his best. Princess Of Queens raced in sixth place, one off the rails, improved between runners at the home turn and then kept battling on well for a good (2.2 lengths) fourth, advancing in class here. Redkirk Warrior settled in last place in the ten-horse field, went deep approaching the home turn and kept running on well, wide out for (2.3 lengths) fifth in a smart first-up performance. Fifty Stars raced in second last place, got along the rails coming to the home turn and kept making ground on the rails for (2.9 lengths) sixth in a sound first-up run over this sprint distance.
