Wonder mare Winx was supreme. Handier than usual throughout, she cruised away under no pressure from the 200m for yet another commanding win, her 30th in succession. She was last away but by the 1200m settled fourth, one off the fence. Jockey Hugh Bowman was content to ease to fifth at the 1000m but 600m out she crept closer to the lead, giving the leader four lengths at the top of the straight. Bowman waited, gave her a mild shake at the 250m and she breezed alongside the pacemaker after which she ran clear under no pressure whatsoever, the consummate professional to the line. Happy Clapper was second from the 1000m, challenged for the lead at the 500m and took over turning in. He led at the 200m then watched the champ breeze past. Egg Tart sat third turning in, moved out to challenge at the 300m and held on quite well for third from Patrick Erin, who was fourth at the 400m and kept on really well for fourth.
