On just her fourth start, Nakeeta Jane looked very good in winning fresh up here, following a strong third last September in the Flight Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m). She began fairly to take up the fence in fourth when they settled. With 600m remaining she stood up the two tearaways four lengths and into the straight was not making much impression. A shade closer at the 200m she wound up quickly from the 150m, reeled in the leader at the 50m then powered away for a terrific win. Madam Rouge moved into second at the 1000m then she (and Terminology) broke away by four from the 600m, grabbed the lead at the 300m and looked the winner until Nakeeta Jane powered by at the 50m. Pohutukawa was third last turning in, did not get clear running until very late, switched ground then flashed into third. El Dorado Dreaming was fifth at the top of the straight and kept on doggedly to the line for fourth.
