Godolphin-raced colt Microphone took his record to three wins from four starts in taking out his this Group 2 race in impressive fashion. He settled nicely for James McDonald in third place, tracking a good tempo, moved up to hit the front on passing the 200m and despite racing a bit greenly on his first start in Sydney, he went on to win well, looking on track for the Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) on March 23. Peter and Paul Snowden-trained colt Cosmic Force raced outside the leader (Fiery Red), was under riding on straightening but responded to briefly take the lead at the 200m before fighting well for a very good second at his third race start and his second run this preparation. Castlevecchio settled at the tail of the six-horse field, was under pressure to make ground approaching the home turn, was still last at the 200m but then came with a strong late finish to take third and while it was his first defeat in three runs it was a strong pointer for races over longer distances. Accession was back in fourth place, went to third at the 100m before battling on for (3.8 lengths) fourth.
